Evaluation Activity 7
Bruce = Black Will = Red Mitchel = Blue
How we have progressed our Skills and understanding of film making from our preliminary task to our final edit.
BLACK - Bruce
RED - William
BLUE - Mitchel
When we first started making our preliminary task we had a very basic knowledge of camera angles, shot reverse shot, match on action and other camera techniques. This is why we had to make a short video so we could actually put what we had been taught into action and show that we understood the techniques. We then had to edit it together so that the sequence made sense and had continuity. Also so we could review and get feedback on what went wrong. This helped up to gain a better understanding of what we had done.
Leading up to our final sequence that we had to film we had various little tasks to do, to refresh and learn new skills. An example of this would be the falling down sound edit. This helped us understand how to use sound effects and mix sound into an edit. Another one would be Dexter, this edit helped us understand edit, sound and camera as we had to remake the opening sequence. Testing how we used angles, techniques and set things such as composition and lighting.
For our final edit we had to use everything we had learn't, We had to make sure that our lighting, composition, location, props, techniques, angles and others were all correct. We then split the group up into 3 and become specialists in that one area. For example i did the sound for the sequence, finding all the sound effects and soundtracks so that it would support the edit and help it build up suspense and mystery. As the editor i had to make sure that all the footage made sense and that i changed the lighting to help the sequence become more of a thriller.
Overall we have learn't a lot from doing the smaller edits before the final one as we could actually practice using the software we needed. And could also get feedback so we wouldn't make the same mistakes again. We have all now got a very good understanding of sound, edit and titles. And would know exactly what to do and use if we were to do it again.

CAMERA AND TRIPOD
We used a camera of this type. We were taught how to properly operate the camera so that we can achieve the shots we needed. We were taught how to zoom in and out, as well as adjusting the composition and focus. We also were shown how to properly use the tripod to balance the camera so that the shot doesn't appear drunk(slanted), as also how to capture the angles such as low and high that we wanted in the shots.
FINAL CUT PRO
Final Cut Pro was used to edit the footage that our team has captured. We learnt how to organize the footage in so that it shows a continuing narrative, as also how to apply effects to the footage such as color grading to get a thriller look, we used the color dark blue due to it being associated as masculine. After the editing has finished, we added Titles to the scenes by using knowledge we had learnt.
GARAGEBAND
Garageband was used to add the soundtrack, sound effects and Foley to the opening scene. We learnt how to adjust the sound lengths and how to match it up so that it will sync with the footage. We had practiced using Garageband when we did our falling down edit, where we added Foley and music to a silent scene from a film
BLOGGER
Blogger was used to show our final finished project as well as the tasks we did to get ready for the final finished product, we embedded the video so that it can be seen with all the other posts we had. This blog can also be accessed by all members of our production company at anytime and anywhere.
YOUTUBE
We used Youtube to upload our final finished Opening Thriller, we then embedded it onto our blogs so that it is with the rest of our work. This process is easier because uploading it directly to the blog will take a longer duration of time.
INCOMPETECH
The soundtrack was taken from this website as it makes it easy to minimize and specifically choose the suitable soundtracks that were considered for the opening scene. This is also better then using youtube and converting the music into a downloadable format, as we wont get in trouble.
